In a time of increasing cyber threats and more stringent regulatory frameworks such as NIS2 and the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), it is evident that cybersecurity must be a top priority. To maintain competitiveness and adhere to regulations, industrial technology providers must deliver certified, secure-by-design solutions.
The symmedia Hub is now officially certified to IEC 62443-3-3 Security Level 2 (SL2), making it, to the best of our knowledge, the only out-of-the-box SaaS solution worldwide to achieve this certification within this particular scope. symmedia continues to demonstrate its leadership in secure industrial connectivity.
We didn’t just meet that bar.
We raised it.
Why IEC 62443-3-3 matters
The IEC 62443 series is the globally recognized benchmark for cybersecurity in industrial automation and control systems. Part 3-3 defines the technical security requirements for system components, and SL2 signifies the level of maturity capable of withstanding deliberate, skilled threats. SL2 corresponds to the recommended target level for OEMs and industrial service platforms, especially those exposed to public networks or involving remote access by the VDMA (German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association) and aligns with NIS2/CRA expectations.
Meeting these requirements entails more than simply securing a few endpoints – it involves implementing structured, scalable, and proven security capabilities across the entire product ecosystem.
The symmedia Hub provides customers with the exact solution they need.
What it took to get here: built on a secure foundation
This achievement is the result of hard work and planning, and it didn’t happen overnight. Years of continuous investment in security, quality, and compliance have led to this result. Before we pursued 3-3 certification, we laid the groundwork with IEC 62443-4-1 ML4 certification – the highest level of security for product development processes. symmedia is one of only three other companies worldwide to have achieved ML4 certification via TÜV Nord.
The symmedia Hub is secure today and will remain secure tomorrow. It evolves with the threat landscape and is backed by rigorous lifecycle processes.

What the certification covers
The audit under the scope of the IEC 62443 3-3 performed by TÜV Nord was extensive, covering a broad and deep scope that includes:
- Robust user authentication and authorization mechanisms
- Secure communication protocols (including encryption, integrity checks, and certificate management)
- Intrusion detection and logging capabilities
- Defense-in-depth architecture designed to isolate and contain potential threats
- Secure configuration and maintenance procedures
- Hardening of software components and system interfaces
- And more, fully aligned with the SL2 threat profiles.

What this means for our customers
For both existing and new customers, the IEC 62443-3-3 SL2 certification means:
-
Built-in compliance: Supporting you in meeting NIS2, CRA, and internal IT security requirements.
-
Reduced risk: A hardened communication platform that resists cyberattacks and unauthorized access.
-
Faster onboarding: Security assessments and audits go smoother with certified components.
-
Peace of mind: Knowing that the security isn’t just claimed – it’s proven, tested, and certified.
The symmedia Hub has always committed to ensuring the safety, scalability, and simplicity of remote services. It is now regarded as one of the most secure solutions on the global market. It is now indisputably one of the most secure solutions on the global market.
